The Swiss Floorball Association has set itself a big goal for the 2022 Men's World Floorball Championships (WFC) in Zurich and Winterthur. In fact, 2022 will see the first zero impact floorball world championship in history. To achieve this, swiss unihockey is working closely with its sustainability partner myclimate.
The benchmark taken into consideration was the WFC in 2018 and the CO2 emission levels during that event were considered one of the most energy-saving projects. They are creating an even brighter light with the major sustainable event in 2022. This Green Goal can be achieved with creative and innovative measures with sustainable development goals.
The main goal is to emit a maximum of 3,000 tons of CO2 and fully offset CO2 emissions with the help of myclimate climate protection projects. All activities at the WFC can be summarized into five categories: arena operations, team travel and accommodation, fan travel, event food, supplies, and waste disposal. Fans can go a long way towards making this event sustainable and environmentally friendly, both in terms of travel to the event and food.
— We want to provide ways to do this so that everyone can help us reach our Green Goal and, in the best case, also create added value. This means working towards this goal together and having fun at the same time! So why travel to the event alone by car when the floorball festival can already begin in the special chartered fan train? In addition, the train will stop almost in front of the arena, and the ride is also cheaper than taking your car, says Daniel Kasser, CEO of the Men’s WFC 2022.
They have set themselves these ambitious goals and will do everything possible to achieve them. Together with partners and sponsors, the organizers seek new solutions and extraordinary ideas. There are endless possibilities, from recycling innovative products to sustainably tailored clothing for volunteers. The challenge for a greener sport and planet is accepted!
